Alena Schafer

I grew up in Missouri on a cow calf farm/ranch my grandpa owned. We grew up riding horses which we used to gather cattle. My cousin's always owned mules and I rode with them quite often.

I like for my mules to be soft in the face and soft throughout their body. You have to figure out how to bring the horse out in the mule.. I like riding mules because they are very intelligent and so talented. I use my mules just like I would a horse.

I work Mondays at the local livestock sale penning, sorting, gathering, and counting cattle . We also use horses or mules to push cattle onto pots. My mules will know what a full day's work is.. We also do day work for who ever might need help horse back/ mule. Which consist of gathering big pastures, to checking for sick, roping and doctoring or maybe even sorting.

I have two young girls who love to ride as well. We have a handful of good Quarter horse mares we raise babies out of. I also train horses or mules for the public. I love putting a good confident start on a young animal. I like for my stock to have a lot of body control, a soft face and a respectful mind. It doesn't matter if it's a mule, draft cross, full blood halflinger, or a reining bred quarter horse. They all need to have a good handle and know what a hard day's work is.
