DESCRIPTION | Blackjack
Blackjack is a rare combination of being both fearless on the trail and gentle and kind when being handled. He is a farrier's dream; standing quietly when being shod. He has had limited experience roping steers and handled it in excellent fashion. He is being offered for sale because his owner, who has ridden him on countless trails over the past three years, is 87 years old and backing off from active trail riding, Blackjack has his whole life ahead of him and deserves an owner who will ride him often and enjoy his bold, steady, comfortable and sure-footed way of going. He is a go-forward mule that will either lead or bring up the rear--whatever is asked of him. Blackjack has been packed into the mountains elk hunting. He has a long, easy, ground-covering stride on the trail and is totally safe, no matter the terrain or circumstances. He has both an easy jog and a long, reaching trot when asked. His lope is balanced and smooth. He neck reins handily. Blackjack is a true "people" mule. He will leave others in his pasture group to join up with a person coming into the enclosure. He has no bad habits. He enjoys having his ears scratched and played with. Stands quietly while being bridled and saddled. Remains motionless when being mounted and waits for the rider's signal before walking off. He stands just as quietly for dismounting. His owner used a mounting block and he is fine with that. Loads into trailer willingly and unloads with ease. Blackjack is with trainer Barbara Martin to further refine his arena skills and to continue enjoying the rugged mountain trails in Wyoming.
